Day 3: Tortuguero National Park, originally intended to protect a major nesting beach for the endangered green and leatherback turtles (July through October), now protects 21.000 hectares of tropical rain forest, one of the last larges areas of tropical rain forest in Central America. You will leave early in the morning to explore the Tortuguero canals by boat with your naturalist guide.
